Textbook assignments and journal: These assignments are not graded. They are used to give the teacher an idea of how well the student is grasping the material in class.

Handout assignments : graded
Quizzes, tests : graded
Marks are cumulative for each term.

Late assignments: 10% reduction per day up to 50%. Any assignment not handed in after 5 days will be zero.

Handout assignments represent 75% of the term mark; tests and quizzes are 25% of the term mark.


Assessment is used for various purposes.
Assessment for learning: where assessment helps teachers gain insight into what students understand in order to plan and guide instruction, and provide helpful feedback to students.
Assessment as learning: where students develop an awareness of how they learn and use that awareness to adjust and advance their learning, taking an increased responsibility for their learning.
